Coach King started the SC Crew team  in 2006 after 4 years as the Head Coach for both the Men's and Women's teams at Potomac High School in Prince William County. During her last year at Potomac she had both a men's boat and a women's boat medal at the State Championships.  Prior to Potomac, she coached the winning novice girls boat at Woodbridge H.S., also in Prince William County. Her experience with both a large and a small crew team helped develop the unique understanding necessary for shaping a successful rowing program.

Coach King is a very competitive rower herself and has been rowing and racing for over 14 years.  She is a member of the Prince William Rowing Club, Occoquan Boat Club, and Jack Sulger's Rowing Circus, and competes for all three in eights, fours, quads, and doubles. She has competed in numerous regattas throughout the country including Masters Nationals, The Head of the Ohio, the prestigious Head of the Charles, numerous regattas on the Occoquan and Fisa Masters Worlds. In 2009 she had one of her most successful seasons with her teammates, winning every race they entered in their eight.  They were in the top percent at the Head of the Charles and earned a guaranteed entry back for 2010.  At Masters Nationals her lightweight four won the Gold Medal, competing against Masters Rowers from all over the country.  She uses her racing experiences in her coaching as they allow her to share more of the feelings that the rowers face themselves during competition.

Coach King knows the sacrifices and commitment required to excel at this sport because she does it herself, but she also knows the importance of prioritizing things and maintaining balance.  Since she does this in her own life with a full time job, coaching, raising a family, taking classes, and continuing her own training and rowing regimen, she understands the pressures and difficulties facing the rower/athletes and is able to help them.

Coach King is a Level III Certified rowing coach, a Certified indoor rowing instructor and has her Virginia Coaching Education certification.  She also has her US Coast Guard Boating Safety Certification, CPR, and First Aid.  She stays abreast of the latest technologies and training techniques related to rowing by continually attending rowing conferences, training seminars and coaching summits. She is currently the President of the Coaches Group in VASRA.

Although her involvement with the sport of rowing has only been for 14 years, she has been involved with top level competitive sports for over 35 years as her husband is a Tennis Professional and her sons are nationally ranked student athletes. Because nutrition is a very important component for athletic success in elite athletes, Coach King feels strongly that all athletes should be educated on the importance of proper nutrition for performance, elite or otherwise.  She works hard to instill this in her rowers so they understand how it can help them not only with their athletic performances but wiith academics and the hectic lifestyles they lead.  She continues to take classes  to stay abreast of the trends and changes so she is able to pass this on to her athletes.

Coach King works at Halley Elementary School when she is not coaching or rowing herself.
