Check out the Adult and High School Learn To Row Prince William opportunity! April 1st, May 2nd, June 13th.

Parents of Rowers – Find out why your children love to row.  No experience is needed to join the NVRC learn-to-row program that runs from June 5 to July 1. We row sweep eights or fours out of Sandy Run on the Occoquan River (we lease the boats from high school programs).  As you will learn, rowing is an aerobic sport but is low-impact and easy on the ankles, knees and hips, (unlike running and biking), so the chance of injury is lessened.  In addition to NVRC’s one month learn-to-row program, we offer follow-on programs to develop the rowing stroke and for competing in the fall “head” races (our adult boats generally beat a number of the junior boats in these races).  For more information, see our website row4nvrc.com or contact Kathy Clowery at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. High School Coxes with at least one season’s coxing experience – gain additional valuable on and off water coxing experience and earn money donations for your team.  NVRC’s adult rowing program utilizes fours and eights from various high school rowing programs in teaching sweep rowing in the summer, and head race competition in the fall.  For qualified coxes with a coach recommendation,  please contact Head Coach Ron Lim at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. This posting announces upcoming Juniors sculling lessons provided by Sandy Run Scullers (Lloyd Martin, Head Coach) commencing Monday, June 21st and running through Wednesday, July 28th.  Participants must be high school age (9th - 12th grade).  Class size is limited to 16 participants (8 novice slots; 8 experienced slots).

Sandy Run Scullers (SRS) is a small, private rowing club located on the Occoquan that provides training and recreational sculling opportunities for adult and youth rowers.  SRS is also the major sponsor for the Inter-Scholastic Sculling Association, which provides competitive sculling events for high school aged rowers.

The Juniors sculling course is not a competitive sculling program.  It is intended for students who want to learn how to scull, or who wish to hone/refine their sculling skills if they already have some experience.  The course will be conducted in 12 separate sessions, scheduled two evenings per week for six weeks.  Individual sessions will take place on Monday and Wednesday evenings, 6:00 - 8:30 pm (or sunset, whichever comes first), at the Sandy Run Rowing facility at Boathouse #2 (middle boathouse).  SRS will supply all the equipment.  Cost per rower is $220.00, payable to Sandy Run Scullers.  After successfully completing this course of instruction, you will be proficient in basic sculling techniques and be able to row in quads.

Note:  The instructional techniques employed in this course are cumulative, which means that each successive session builds on the previous one.  You should be able to commit to these sessions to benefit fully from the program.

What you need to do!   To ensure quality instruction and safety afloat, the program is limited to 16 youth rowers.  If you are interested and ready to commit, please respond directly to Dana LaFever, SRS Membership Director, to register and guarantee a spot.  The club E-mail address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
